What does it mean to be a modern housewife with a spiritual calling?
Lately, I’ve been reading about the "Trad wife" movement and seeing a lot of content from places like Ballerina Farm, where life is portrayed in such a romantic, old-fashioned way. The idea of returning to simpler times is really appealing to many, and I understand why.
There’s something comforting about the nostalgia, the clear roles, and the focus on home life. A return to what seems like it would have been a simpler time. But as I reflected on it, I felt immense gratitude for my own life, one that blends the values of family, self-care, and spiritual growth in a way that fits who I am.
I guess I would call myself a modern spiritual housewife, and for me, that means embracing my role as a homemaker, but also making self-care a priority and creating space for my own spiritual calling and personal contribution to the world.
I am fortunate that my husband provides the primary financial support for our family. This allows me the privilege of being able to put my main focus on nurturing and guiding my children. In exchange, I take on the majority of household tasks and responsibilities, doing my best to make our home a happy one.
But I know that I can care best for others when I care well for myself. Self-care and meeting my own needs are my first priority so that I can bring the best of who I am into everything that I do. I believe I was created as an expression of God and try to care for myself in a way that allows that to shine.
Along with being a wife and mother, I run a part-time spiritual business. This business isn’t just about making a little extra income (although every little bit helps when trying to live a full, happy, and secure life these days). It’s about fulfilling my need to contribute to my community, follow my spiritual calling, and feel a sense of purpose outside of my family role.
My personal path is guided by New Thought ideas, just as many tradwives are guided by Christian principles. My spiritual beliefs are central to everything I do, from how I approach marriage and parenting, to how I run my business and care for myself.
New Thought teaches that we are all expressions of Spirit, and that life is meant to be lived fully, consciously, and with purpose. These teachings inspire me daily to be mindful in my roles and to create a life that feels true to who I am.
I want to be clear that every woman has the right to choose her own path. There is no one-size-fits-all model for what it means to be a wife, a mother, or a woman. The path I’ve chosen feels right for me. Every path is a unique expression of life and Spirit, and I deeply honor the choices that each woman makes for herself and her family.
For me, the balance of caring for my family, caring for myself, and making a meaningful contribution to society is where I find joy and fulfillment. My life as a modern spiritual housewife allows me to live in alignment with my values, to nurture my children, to support my husband, and to follow my spiritual calling. And for that, I am incredibly grateful.
