As we approach the new year, I have to admit, I have never been so happy to see a year end as I will be when 2020 does. I have never really put a lot of stock into new year rituals such as making resolutions. One year has always seemed pretty much like another to me. Each year only represented a way to measure time to me. No one year has ever seemed to be so individualized and alive to me as 2020 has. Between the Pandemic, the racial justice movement, and profound personal change and growth, 2020 seemed to be infused with an energy and life force all its own.
Not that everything about 2020 has been bad. There were a lot of good experiences and valuable lessons. I am grateful for so much of what has passed in the last 12 months, even as I look forward to what is to come in the future.
I do not normally celebrate New Year’s Eve or New Year’s Day. For me, the Winter Solstice as always marked the years end and new beginnings. I find that I feel the urge to this year, however. I feel moved to celebrate what has been learned and gained through 2020, to let go of the fear, frustration, and pain that it brought, and to look forward to 2021 with high hopes and strong faith in the good that it will bring.
I plan to spend New Year’s Eve with my children. We will make cookies and laugh and play and reflect on all the time we got to spend together through virtual learning and staying at home. We will count the blessings that 2020 brought us.
We will also be reflecting on the things that 2020 brought us that are no longer serving us and that it is time to let go or begin to heal. We will send these things Reiki together with the intention of clearing out old, stagnant energy that no longer serves us and restoring ourselves to our natural state of well-being.
We will then look ahead to 2021 and discuss our hopes and our goals for the coming year. Here again we will use Reiki to power our intentions for the future. We will send Reiki to our future selves, the year ahead of us, and all of our future endeavors. We will also send Reiki for the well-being of all, for healing for all those who lost loved ones and livelihoods this year, and for a swift end to the pandemic.
