After experiencing the benefits of Reiki practice firsthand, many Reiki practitioners decide they would like their children to have this skill, as well. Reiki can be a wonderful skill for children, increasing their confidence and well being by giving them a way to care for themselves and people that they love.
Introducing children to Reiki gives them a way to manage their emotional, mental, and physical well-being. It helps them develop mindfulness, compassion, and resilience from a young age. Additionally, it fosters a deeper connection with themselves and others, enhancing empathy and understanding.
When Introducing Reiki:
Explain to them what Reiki is in simple terms. Reiki is a way of using the energy that is all around us to help ourselves and others heal. It isn’t magic and can’t fix everything, but it is a way that we can help healing happen.
Tell children where Reiki came from. In the early 1900’s a Buddhist Monk from Japan named Mikao Usui learned to heal himself and others and wanted to share that healing with more people. He created the kind of Reiki we are talking about so he could help people heal and teach other people to be healing helpers, too.
Explain how Reiki works. Energy makes up everything in the world, including us. Reiki helps keep our energy balanced and flowing smoothly, which supports our emotional, mental, and physical health.
Explain the process of learning Reiki. A Reiki Master must teach a person Reiki. After the Reiki Master has taught a student everything that they need to know about Reiki they will get an attunement which help open them up to channel the Universal Energy.
Ask them if they would like to learn Reiki. It is important that a child wants to learn Reiki before being enrolled in a class. This should be an informed choice made by the child. It’s okay to express what Reiki has meant to you and why you would like your child to learn, but the final decision should be theirs.
You may need to expand on these short and simple descriptions during your conversation with your child. Follow their lead, expand on any topics they don’t seem to understand, and answer any questions that come up in a simple, direct, and honest manner. Do not pressure them to learn Reiki if they are not interested. While it is a wonderful skill for children, they need to have a genuine desire to learn and practice Reiki.
