As an advanced Reiki practitioner, the ability to send healing energy across time and space adds a wonderful element to your practice. Distance Reiki allows us to support people and send healing to situations no matter where they are in the world. While each practitioner may approach distance sessions differently, creating a focused, professional experience will benefit both you and the Reiki recipient.
Ten steps for a professional Distance Reiki session:
Step 1: Set Up Communication
Before the session, it’s important to communicate with your client about how the session will work. I prefer to disconnect from devices while sending Reiki, so I gather information beforehand through a simple form. After the session, I provide notes covering any impressions I may have had and follow-up suggestions. However, some practitioners like to offer live sessions via video conferencing, such as Zoom or do the session over the phone. Choose the method that feels best for you and explain it clearly to your client.
Step 2: Prepare Your Space
Just like an in-person session, your environment matters. Cleanse your space by smudging or using sound and create a calming atmosphere with candles or soft music. Even though the client isn’t physically present, the energy of the space will influence the session.
Step 3: Ground Yourself and Set the Intention
Before beginning the session, ground yourself. Take a few deep breaths and connect with Reiki energy. Set a clear intention for the session, asking that the healing flows for the client’s highest good. Visualize yourself connected to both the earth and the client, holding space for their healing.
Step 4: Choose a Distance Reiki Method
There are many ways to send Distance Reiki, so choose the method that resonates with you. Some practitioners visualize the client in front of them and perform Reiki as if the client were on the treatment table. Others use a photograph or a written name as a focus. You can even use a proxy, such as a pillow or stuffed animal, to represent the client. Trust your intuition to guide you in selecting the best method.
Step 5: Use Reiki Symbols to Connect with the Recipient
The Connection Symbol is essential to the session. Before beginning, draw the symbol mentally or with your hands, and silently activate it to connect to the client. If you feel guided, incorporate the Power and Balance symbols to enhance the energy flow. I use the sandwich method of starting with the Cho Ku Rei followed by the Sei Hei Ki and Hon Sha Ze Sho Nen, and then repeat the Cho Ku Rei.
Step 6: Send Reiki to the Client
Once connected, send Reiki to the client, working through the energetic body and focusing on any specific areas they’ve mentioned. Spend extra time in areas where you sense blockages or where you’re intuitively drawn. Allow the Reiki energy to flow freely, trusting that it will go where it’s needed most.
Step 7: Seal the Energy
When the session is complete, seal the energy by visualizing it wrapping around the client in a protective, healing light. Offer a moment of gratitude for the energy that has been exchanged and release the connection gently.
Step 8: Share Your Observations
After the session, take a few moments to speak with your client or write down any notes or observations that came up during the healing. Whether it’s specific sensations, colors, or emotional releases, these insights can be valuable for the client’s healing journey. Share your observations with your client, along with any self-care recommendations. Be careful not to present Reiki as a source of psychic information when sharing impressions. Do not try to interpret your impressions, simply present them to the recipient to do their own analysis.
Step 9: Follow Up with the Client
Reach out to the client after the session to see how they’re feeling. For practitioners who prefer to disconnect during the session (like I do), this can be done by sending your notes through email or messaging. If you’ve done a live video or phone session, you can discuss their experience at the end of the call. Encourage them to rest, hydrate, and be gentle with themselves as the energy continues to work over the next few days.
Step 10: Clear Your Space
After you’ve completed the session and communicated with the client, take time to clear your space again. Thank the Reiki energy for flowing through and then cleanse your environment, ensuring it’s ready for your next session.
Professional Distance Reiki sessions offer healing across space and time. Whether you prefer to disconnect from devices and send Reiki quietly, or engage with your clients in real-time through video, what matters most is trust your process and allow the energy to flow. By following these steps, you can create an effective and supportive healing experience for your clients, no matter where they are in the world.
